Off to a wedding in Wiltshire and out of nowhere appears a jewel of a pub, The Beckford Arms.
On the edge of the rolling parkland of the Fonthill Estate, The Beckford Arms—twinkling in the sunlight—has eight en-suite bedrooms and two Splendens Lodges; a pair of cabins just a 10-minute walk away, with a woodburner, little kitchen, fridge packed with local breakfast goodies, and a mezzanine floor bedroom with roll-top bath.
Lunch in the library was a delicious baked ricotta salad, cider-battered fish and chips and ewes curd and heritage tomato salad. Art on the walls by Zebedee Helm is for sale, and if I’d had time I would have pounced upon a massage with in-house Shiatsu or Thai practitioners.
Everything was just right; from the welsh blankets to the Roberts wireless. So it came as no surprise to discover that The Beckford’s owner, Dan Brod, worked for Nick Jones at Soho House for 10 years. He also owns my other favourite pub, The Talbot Inn at Mells in Somerset. So watch out The Beckford Arms… I’m coming back for you.
