Voices: East London

Artists Gilbert & George, jewellery designer Stephen Webster and Charles Saumarez Smith, chief executive of the Royal Academy of Arts, are just some of the creatives profiled by Maryam Eisler in Voices: East London, a new hardback co-published by Thames & Hudson and TransGlobe Publishing. Featuring a mix of striking portraits and in-depth interviews, the combination of subjects speaks to the diversity of the East London creative community. As well as art-world luminaries like Iwona Blazwick, director of the Whitechapel Gallery, and gallerists Victoria Miro and Maureen Paley, there is also Nick Jones, founder of Soho House, Google Campus head Sarah Drinkwater, and comedian, actor and drag queen Jonny Woo. The real gems, though, are the lesser-known locals, like Sandra Esquilant, landlord of The Golden Heart pub, and pataphysicist Viktor Wynd.
