The Visionaries

Kinvara Balfour takes multitasking to a whole new level. As well as writing for magazines, she interviews the likes of Anna Wintour and Tom Ford as part of Apple’s “Fashion in Conversation” series and directs the launch of several tech start-ups from London to Los Angeles. Most recently, she’s also turned her hand to directing, creating The Visionaries, a series of “mini-films for the Insta generation”. The subject list alone makes these worth a watch: there’s Nick Jones, the brains behind Soho House; Josh Ostrovsky, better known as Instagram sensation @TheFatJewish; Manolo Blahnik, arguably the world’s most famous shoe designer; and Es Devlin, the set designer who has created designs for the Royal Court, the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony and the stages of Beyoncé, Jay Z, Adele and Kanye West. Filmed purely by iPhone, Balfour’s skill lies in her being a savvy interviewer, quickly putting people at ease so they open up in a natural way. Future subjects include make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury, designer Mary Katrantzou, screenwriter Peter Morgan (The Crown, Frost/Nixon) and milliner Stephen Jones, so be sure to stay tuned.
