Once you’ve heard music in the full Technicolor of a top-quality sound system, it’s hard to go back to whatever you had before. While high-end audio at home is a bit of a stretch for most of us, alas, Spiritland in King’s Cross is the perfect spot for when your ears are feeling uncompromising. A cafe and workspace by day, bar by night, the sound system is billed as one of the best in the world. As well as upcoming residencies from Jarvis Cocker and Hot Chip, plus a fully-functioning radio studio on site, there is also a well-curated talks programme. The first installment sees Nick Hornby in conversation with Bill Nighy, with the author grilling the actor on the the musical passions that have guided him through life.
