Collages aren’t just for kids, as Marni’s collaboration with Dutch artist Ruth van Beek proves. Born in 1977, Van Beek has earned a global following thanks to her ever-intriguing photo collages. With a treasure trove of old photographic books, particularly focusing on the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Van Beek folds, cuts and reconstructs images, creating something engaging and revelatory in the process. With such an artistic and intellectual subtext, Van Beek makes the perfect collaborator for Marni, now under the creative direction of Francesco Risso, formerly a member of Prada’s design team. Consisting of nature-filled illustrations in soft, muted tones, Van Beek’s bespoke illustrations are presented on t-shirts, tops, poplin shirts, anoraks and shopping bags. Our two favourite features? First, the reasonable price point (the bags come in at £280), and second, the fact that it’s sure to be like nothing already in your wardrobe.
