Lucian Freud has always been tightly connected to the world of fashion. In recent years, his daughter, Bella, became a designer whose whimsical jumpers have been worn by the likes of Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevingne and Kate Moss, while Lucian’s portrait of the latter sold for £3.9million in 2005. This year his own sartorial tastes are taking centre stage, with his 1950s wardrobe serving as inspiration for Mr P.— the debut collection from Mr Porter’s own menswear label. Built around classic, core staples, the label is a Mr Porter style fusion of good taste and savvy technology, with design choices shaped by the data garnered from seven years of purchases by 600,000 customers. While the first collection is focused just on clothes, by autumn/winter 2018 there will be shoes and accessories too.
