Mathilde Nivet at Burlington Arcade

What’s the best thing you’ve ever created on paper? A drawing? A story? Maybe a love letter? Either way, we’d bet paper-artist Mathilde Nivet has you bested. The French artist, who trained at the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris and previously collaborated with Hermès, Bulgari and Chanel, has suspended 300 birds from the ceiling of Piccadilly’s Burlington Arcade in partnership with Vanity Fair. Her first UK installation, the birds have been crafted in two positions—one with the wings fully stretched, the other slightly bent, and all layered with feathers. Created in time for Mayfair Art Weekend, the installation will remain in place until October, symbolizing the flocks of people who move through London during the course of the year.
