The roll call of the families who have owned Lucknam Park’s historic estate reads like the cast of characters from a Jilly Cooper novel. First came the Wallis family, then the Methuens, followed by the Boodes, the Walmesleys and finally the Merrys. It’s a history that begins in the 17th century and ends in the 1960s, when the estate was bought by a neighbour who maintained it as a family home until it opened as a hotel in 1987. Today, the property has earned a reputation as one of the UK’s finest country hotels. Recently refurbished in partnership with ESPA, it houses everything you could possibly want. One area where this is most certainly true is in the R&R department, which boasts an indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy pool, an amethyst room and a tepidarium among the usual features. If a summer holiday has thus far eluded you, head down to Wiltshire for a treat.
