Ballet dancer, filmmaker, hotelier: it’s not your average triple threat, but who likes averages? For Alexander Kølpin, the three form part of the same package. The first laureate of the prestigious Benois de la Danse competition in 1992, he spent much of his career as a soloist, and later artistic director, of the Royal Danish Ballet. His latest venture, Hotel Sanders, sits opposite the company’s historic theatre, with the hotel set to become Copenhagen’s new hub for the local and visiting creative community. With interiors inspired by luxury train cabins, the feel is theatrical with a hint of colonial aesthetics. Traditional room service has been replaced with hampers that guests can enjoy in their Lind + Almond interiors or outside beside the city’s canals, while the homey Sanders Kitchen and the Tata cocktail bar, inspired by the rise of the velvet curtain at the Ballet, provide plenty of space for communal fun.
